Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
As Director of the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, I am motivated by the challenges of communications access experienced by persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, late-deafened, deafBlind, and speech disabled. In my presentations, I address these challenges and the various programs that my agency provides including interpreter coordination and skill assessment, assistive device demonstration and distribution, telecommunications and video relay, information and referral, and outreach. I also address questions, concerns and stereotypes about employing individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, and I offer suggestions and advice on how deaf and hearing people can work together more successfully.
