Building relationships on both the demand and supply sides of the employment equation is one of Howard’s greatest strengths along with his extensive business connections and experience in rehabilitation. He first became involved with the VABLN in the mid 1990s when Virginia was approached about starting a Business Leadership Network.
“Disability is not something most businesses know much about, especially regarding hiring individuals with disabilities,” notes Howard. “Over the years, the business community has been asked to give for charity, but hasn’t been asked to hire individuals with disabilities. Businesses learn from each other and they need a safe place, such as the VABLN, to share their thoughts about sensitive issues.”
Howard is a member of the Richmond SHRM, the Direct Employers Association, and APSE. He loves bowling and playing golf. Howard’s 15 minutes of fame came when he had dinner with Montel Williams, television talk show host and spokesperson for Partnership for Prescription Assistance.
